Hydraulic Excavator Tipe Backhoe
The Backhoe type is the most commonly used type, from construction to large-scale mining. Its main feature is movement bucket which pulls towards the cabin when digging.
- How It Works: Relying on pulling force (pulling force). The position of the tool is usually above a pile of material (top loading).
- Use in the Field:
- Very effective for loading materials into dump truck whose position is at the lower level (level below the unit).
- Ideal for coal extraction (coal getting) because the movements are precise, so that operators can separate coal from layers of impurities (parting) cleanly.
- Can be used to tidy up mine floors (floor clean-up).
Hydraulic Shovel (Front Shovel)
Different from Backhoe, Front Shovel type has a forward push mechanism. This type is usually found in large class excavators (on 100 ton) to move cover soil (overburden) in massive quantities.
- How It Works: Using thrust (crowd force) away from the cabin.
- Use in the Field:
- Used when the unit position and dump truck are on the same floor level (face loading).
- Safer for high mine walls as the unit moves backwards away from the wall as the bucket fills.
- Has thrust (breakout force) bigger, so it is more resilient against blasting materials (blasting) which is still a bit rough in size.
Understanding What It Is Pass Match Factor (Load Tool Compatibility & Transport)
The efficiency of the loading equipment cannot be seen alone, but must be adjusted to capacity dump truck. This ratio is called Match Factor.
Simply, The mining industry uses a reference for the amount of filling (bucket pass) for one truck:
- 3 – 4 Pass: Time loading fast, but the shock to the truck was very big. Risk of spillage is high.
- 5 – 6 Pass: The most ideal and efficient figure for unit maintenance and fuel use.
- More than 7 Pass: Not efficient. Time loading too long, causing queues of trucks and waste of diesel.
Undercarriage Specifications for Mining Areas
Mining areas have much harsher and more abrasive terrain than typical construction projects. Wrong choice of legs (undercarriage) can increase maintenance costs.
- Shoe Choice: Avoid single grouser (one fin) because it can damage the work floor. It's best to use it double grocer for good traction or triple bigger for smoother maneuvers.
- Track Guard: Make sure the unit is equipped with full protection (full track guard) along the wheel frame. This is important to prevent sharp stones from getting between the chains which could cause the chain to come loose (derail).
